Seattle City Council Process Demystified
Date: April 29, 2009 - 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM

Presenter: Richard Conlin, City Council President
Description: Learn how to effect change within the City of Seattle. City Council President Richard Conlin will present an overview of the City Council process and how to provide input on city ordinances and resolutions. The workshop will discuss the formal and informal rules of taking part in the City Council process.

Inside the Ballot Initiative
Date: April 14, 2009 - 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM

Presenter:
Brendon Cechovic - WA Environmental Council
Description: Ballot Initiatives can be the most effective ways to create change at the state and federal level. Brendon Cechovic will show attendees the most effective way to create a ballot initiative, unraveling the complex process of creating one and the best method to run a successful campaign.


Community Organizing in the 21st Century
Date: May 6th, 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM

Presenter:
James Irwin - Sierra Club Cascade Chapter
Description: Learn how to tap into community values and leadership to create change with James Irwin, Conservation Program Manager of the Cascade Sierra Club. The presentation will emphasize the importance of using shared community values as the basis for organizing and storytelling as a powerful tool for reinforcing those community values, and then examines the Obama campaign as a case study of successful organizing.

Agency Action and Rule Making
Date: April 22, 2009 - 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM

Presenter:
Jim Nolan - Puget Sound Clean Air Agency
Description: What happens to a bill after it becomes law? Jim Nolan from the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency will guide you through the Agency Action process and the general rule-making process. This workshop will show attendees the points at which you are able to influence the agency rule-making process.

Intended Audience: These courses are broadly designed for all citizens of Washington. Each workshop will address different components of the political process. All levels of education and knowledge will benefit from the insight provided by the experienced and knowledgeable instructors.
