About Us BACKGROUND: The Environmental Outreach and Stewardship Alliance (EOS Alliance) was founded in May of 2000 as the Northwest Environmental Education Council. Our headquarters are located in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle and includes a large training facility for hosting events on site. Our programs serve approximately 7,000 people per year across the United States and Canada. WHAT WE DO: We provide green jobs and workforce development, home energy audits and weatherization, efficiency retrofits for buildings, habitat restoration, civic leadership training, youth environmental education, and technical environmental training. James Workman James has over 20 years of successful CEO and leadership experience in the education, business, and consulting fields. The majority of his time has been spent in the non-profit sector. His career has been distributed between various international and stateside locations. The international experiences were in challenging locations including Eastern Europe, South-East Asia, and Western Africa. As a CEO internationally, James used a wide variety of skill sets to address difficult and unpredictable environments, and created an extensive international network across many continents. James' passion is for developing people, organizations, and businesses. His formal education includes a BA in History and Education and a MA in Educational Leadership from Pacific Lutheran University. His Ph.D. work (Candidate in Philosophy achieved Univ. of WA) was in the area of Business Administration, Advanced Leadership Sequence, and Technology Integration. James holds three professional certificates as a Teacher, Principal, and Superintendent. Additionally, he spent six years in a leadership capacity of Project Leadership in the State of Washington. James' combination of experience and passion for developing people serves him well in leading and developing organizations. |

Sarah Choy Sarah graduated from the University of Washington in 2004 with a degree in International Economics. After graduation she worked as a Patient Support Representative where she assisted low-income patients with medical payments. Following this she joined the Peace Corps as a volunteer in Azerbaijan working as a community economic development volunteer. Her Peace Corps experience is what drives her aspirations and passions in her life and career. At EOS, Sarah hopes to build her learning capacity in the environmental arena and to use those skills in opportunities further down her career path. Sarah also makes a mean blend of bubble tea, loves books by Jon Krakauer, sipping coffee on the beach at midnight and dancing beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free. |
Ingrid Clausen Ingrid has nine years of experience in the environmental sector and joined EOS Alliance in October 2009 where she now manages the professional training program. Prior to working at EOS, she was an environmental consultant, earned her Master's in Forest Resources from the University of Washington, and was a Peace Corps Volunteer in The Gambia, West Africa. |

Jill Eikenhorst Jill joined the EOS Alliance AmeriCorps team in September 2009. Originally from Minnesota, she graduated from the University of Puget Sound with a BA in English and has spent the last several summers as a camp counselor and program director at Camp Olson YMCA. She loves to cook delicious vegetarian meals, grow veggies and herbs, and prefers getting around on bikes and sailboats. |

Calvin (Cal) Gloe Originally from Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Cal graduated in May 2009 from the University of Minnesota with a BA in Economics and a Spanish Studies minor. In September 2009 he joined the EOS Alliance AmeriCorps/Sustainability Team and is currently working to promote sustainability throughout his new city. Cal loves outdoor activities such as bicycling, camping, backpacking, skiing, and canoeing. He also really enjoys cold, hoppy beers. Go Packers! |

Clayton Hormel Clayton joined the Sustainability Team at EOS in the fall of 2009 as an AmeriCorps volunteer. Prior to his start at EOS he was enrolled at Evergreen State College where he roamed the world en route to obtaining a bachelor's degree. He hopes to combine his creative spirit and passion for the environment to make a worthwhile contribution to the Pacific Northwest. In his free time Clayton enjoys indulging his wandering spirit through travel, hiking, camping, and writing. |

Ben Kantner Ben is an AmeriCorps member at EOS Alliance. He received a degree from the University of Illinois in Accountancy in 2007, and moved to Seattle in September, 2008. In the past he has volunteered with the U.S. National Park Service, the Student Conservation Association, and Seattle Parks and Recreation. In the future he hopes to do environmental work internationally and attend law school. Ben enjoys hiking, going to concerts, downhill skiing, and kayaking. Ben loves living in Seattle and is excited about serving his city and the Pacific Northwest with EOS Alliance. |

Kyle Kearns Kyle joined EOS Alliance in September 2009 as part of the AmeriCorps Sustainability Team. He received his degree in Economics and Environmental Studies from Southern Illinois University. His previous work experiences includes inspections for the state of Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, data analysis and research in bio-fuels, and full residential house deconstruction. |
Mitch Kristjanson Mitch graduated from The University of Redlands in 2007 with a degree in International Relations. After spending a year volunteering and studying in China, he moved back to the States to begin his professional career. Mitch has always been interested in the nonprofit and environmental sectors, making him a good fit for the EOS team. As the professional training assistant, Mitch supports several of our fantastic staff with graphic design, production, and event planning. Outside of the workplace, he enjoys making music, volunteering at KEXP, and walking his dog. |

Alex Mabery Alex joined the AmeriCorps team at EOS Alliance in September of 2009. He has spent the past four years attending Michigan State University studying environmental science. He will be serving as a Sustainability Coordinator, and hopes to contribute all that he can towards the movement for a healthier planet. Alex could not be more excited about the opportunities that lie ahead, and looks forward to forming new friendships while gaining quality work experience. Alex loves going to concerts and cannot wait to explore more of the Seattle music scene. He also enjoys watching movies, disc golf, photography, and ice hockey. Alex plans to spend his free time adventuring around the city and wants to take advantage of hiking opportunities as much as possible. |

Erick McWayne In 1994, Erick graduated from U.C. Santa Barbara with a B. S. in geophysics and accepted his first environmental science position with Tetra Tech where he helped the Air Force conserve natural resources and remediate contaminated sites. In 1996, while continuing his environmental consulting career, he founded Gaian Industries to reduce public energy consumption by selling solar and wind power systems; and reduce pesticide use by selling organic gardening supplies. In 1998, he accepted a new position as Senior Staff Scientist with URS Corporation conducting contaminated site assessments. In 1998, Erick also co-founded the Beverly Johnson Environmental Leadership Program providing environmental leadership programs for inner city Los Angeles youth. In 2000, he founded the Northwest Environmental Education Council, which became EOS Alliance in 2009, and he served as the Executive Director for ten years. Erick now teaches workshops around the country on resource conservation, environmental chemistry, and groundwater hydrogeology. |

Tiernan Martin Tiernan joined the EOS Alliance Sustainability Team in September 2009. Previously he spent four years abroad studying political science and economics in Montreal, Quebec before returning to the United States in search of a job in service of the environment. Most recently Tiernan worked two summers in the heart of Denali National Park, AK as a maintenance technician. Originally from Vermont, he enjoys snow sports, distance running and campfires. Tiernan is excited at the prospect of getting to know the Pacific Northwest, particularly the local wilderness and coastline. Along with the rest of the AmeriCorps team he will be administering home energy audits and weatherization recommendations in the Seattle area. |

Leah Pistorius Leah is honored to be working with EOS Alliance as an AmeriCorps member. Coming from Kansas City after recently completing a BFA in Industrial Design, Leah is passionate about bringing design in to the world in an ecologically responsible manner. She is looking forward to working with the good people of Seattle and spending as much time as possible exploring all that the beautiful Northwest has to offer. On indoor days Leah likes getting crafty with little sewing projects, reading books, and playing with her cat, Grandpa. |

Carolyn Schulte Carolyn joined EOS Alliance in September 2009. A native of the Pacific Northwest, she is very excited to be working in Seattle. This spring she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Carleton College in Minnesota, where she studied Religion and gained an unexpected appreciation for prairie grass and farm fields. Living in the Grain Belt, Carolyn became interested in the agriculture industry and the way food choices affect our environment. In addition to her interest in food politics, Carolyn loves experimenting in the kitchen while sipping on Oregon microbrews. She also enjoys running, crossword puzzles, and the great outdoors. |
Gretchen Stewart Gretchen joined EOS as Professional Training Program Director in the fall of 2009 eager to work with the team to forward quality sustainability and environmental education. Prior to EOS, she was the Director of Education at MBA University, which provided education, and certification programs in all facets of the homebuilding industry. Having discovered an increased interest in sustainability, and green building, her position with EOS satisfies her strong personal passion to continue to be a "student for life." Her educational history bespeaks this passion. She brings to EOS many diverse skills and is eager to apply them to foster and forward environmental stewardship. Having most recently achieved certifications in Green Building Technology (CGP), Aging in Place (CAPS) she adds these to an E-Commerce / E-Business Degree, Business Technology Management, Human Resource Development, and Project Management. As a public speaker and trainer, Gretchen is dedicated to utilizing education as a conduit to increased environmental awareness and foster strong collaborative partnerships that reflect healthy vibrant organizations and our world. |

Kristel Wolf Kristel processes and records all income and expense transactions, balances the accounts, and imagines a better world. Kristel has a B. S. in Zoology and a B.F.A. in Photography from U.W. She lived in Taiwan and Japan for nearly 5 years teaching English and studying Chinese before returning to the PNW. Besides learning to live more sustainably Kristel enjoys snowboarding, bicycling, reading, and foreign films. |
